Pros and cons of imperialism for European countries

Pros
1. A global economy emerged, machine made goods, money to invest, new technology went to the whole world.
2. European countries received new foods natural resources and cheap labor.
3. All the money made in the colonized countries went to Europe.
4. Culture, art and fashion influenced the European countries.

Cons
1. The European countries got so greedy they started to fight each other over the colonies and thats how the World Wars started.

Pros and cons of imperialism for the colonized countries

Pros
1. They developed plantations and mines.
2. They developed a modern banking system.
3. They had new technology they have never had before, modern communication, modern transportation, developed railroad system to link the countries to the port cities.
4. The countries developed new industry and modern farm equipment.
5. Missionaries built schools and hospitals so they had education and new medicines.
6. Discouraged bad traditions like foot binding.
7. United rival tribes under a stable government.

Cons
1. They disrupted the traditional economies of Asia and Africa.
2. The people were forced to work to supply products.
3. The people had to pay heavy taxes to the European government and that forced them to work to get money.
4. Many of the men had to leave there family and their village to go work on the plantations or the mines, the women were left alone to grow food and take of the children.
5. In Japan and Latin America families sent their daughters to work as housekeepers or in factories in the cities.
6. Hand made goods were being replaced by factory made goods, in India many people were out of jobs.
7. Famines occurred because most of the crops or food that was raised in the colonized countries was being sent to Europe.
8. The local economies became dependent on the European countries.
